Report illegal content.
Someone shared something illegal with you through Vault This? Report it to the authorities. They can look into it and ask us to take the share down, and we do.
Where to report
- Australia: eSafety Commissioner (Illegal or harmful content online); ACCCE (Child sexual abuse material)
- United States: NCMEC CyberTipline (Child sexual abuse material); FBI (Other crimes online)
- United Kingdom: Internet Watch Foundation (Child sexual abuse material)
- Canada: Cybertip.ca (Child sexual abuse material)
- New Zealand: Netsafe (Harmful content online)
- Ireland: Hotline.ie (Illegal content online)
- Everywhere else: INHOPE (Finds your country's own hotline)
Or contact your local police. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number.
Before you report
- Keep the invitation link or its 12 words. They let the authority open the share. Nobody else can: we can't either.
- Don't save, screenshot or forward illegal content to anyone, including us.
- In the app, Leave this shared vault removes it from your phone whenever you like.
For police, regulators and legal teams
Email Email us with the invitation link (or its 12 words) and your reference. We'll suspend the share, keep its encrypted files for 90 days or as long as you ask, and can give you an evidence package: the encrypted files exactly as stored, the share's record (dates, size, when each invitation was opened), fingerprints to show nothing changed, and a tool to open it with the invitation's words. We can't open it ourselves and don't know who made the share.
Shares made through a shared cloud folder (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox), sent as a file or passed phone to phone never reach our servers, so we can't remove them: ask the cloud company, which has its own process. If you hold the .vaultshare file and the 12 words that came with it, our tool can open it into ordinary files on a computer, with no phone or app needed: ask us for it.
